Best international schools — how did you choose?

We’re moving to Mallorca with two kids (ages 7 and 10) and the school decision is keeping me up at night. We’ve been looking at Baleares International College, The Academy, and Bellver International College.

For those of you who’ve been through this — what made you choose your school? Are there things you wished you’d known before deciding?

Also interested in hearing from anyone whose children attend a Spanish state school. Our kids don’t speak Spanish yet but I’ve heard some families make it work.

We went through this exact process two years ago. We ended up choosing Baleares International College and have been really happy. The key factors for us were the bilingual approach (our kids now speak good Spanish) and the smaller class sizes.

One piece of advice: visit the schools in person during a normal school day, not during an open day. You get a much more realistic picture of the atmosphere and how the teachers interact with the children.

Don’t rule out the state schools entirely — some of the concertado schools (semi-private) are excellent and much more affordable.
